edfn Specification

EDF - Planning Kept Simple - is a method for optimal task planning. This specification describes data models, state machines, file formats and workflows which allow to implement EDF support in personal task planning applications, as well as interchange of tasks between instances and different compliant applications.

The specification comes as a core set of functionality with extensions.

• edfn core: minimal EDF task planning.
• edfn effort: forecast delivery.
• edfn tagging: plan by context.
• edfn state: manipulate task state manually.
• Task delegation extension: delegate tasks to other persons and monitor feedback.
• Task pause extension: work on multiple tasks in parallel.
• Task track extension: track task modification.

Applications are allowed to implement the edfn functionality without any royalties, but they must state compliance in order to use the terms EDF, EDF - Planning Kept Simple - or edfn.
